A Jaipur Story
Wall-coverings Catalogue for Nilaya by Asian Paints
A Jaipur Story is a collection inspired by Jaipur’s reverie-like cityscape— carved by its gilded monuments, quaint frescoes, and intimate objets d'art.

Conceived as a part of the “City Series,” a set of city-based wall-covering collections for Nilaya by Asian Paints, it comes together as a modernist take on the often historically represented city of Jaipur.

A set of 9 patterns showcased in a supporting pattern book builds this collection.

"Like the changing hues of sandstone touched by shifting winds, a series of patterns and murals transform walls into expressive canvases. From the
rhythmic dance of leheriya tie-dye to the intricate echoes of Sheesh Mahal’s mirrored beauty. In dusky pinks, pale yellows, and quiet blue-greens, the visual language is a subtle echo of Jaipur’s frescoes. The play of textures, contours, and hues converge through watercolor washes, delicate paper cuts, or hand-drawn motifs. Ancient whispers mingle with today’s voices to tell an eloquent new Jaipur story."

The pattern book and wallpapers have an almost symbiotic relationship. With conscious and tailored storytelling being a strong selling point at Nilaya, the pattern book was designed through the viewpoint of contemporary Jaipur—with wallpapers visible in modern homes while having a subtle traditional undertone.

The book in itself bears a modest personality, with its lime-wash texture, plain serifs, and extracted motifs. The collection is also introduced through juxtapositional artwork—a physical assemblage of modern-day Jaipur sightings interspersed with elements from the collection, peppered across.
